JGB Stump Grinding

Services

Everything we do —in plain English.

We’ll quote any of these on-site. The price you get is the price you pay — no surprise add-ons, no upsells.

  • Small Stump Grinding

Stumps under 12 inches across — most front-yard ornamentals, crepe myrtles, ligustrums. In and out in an hour.

For stumps up to roughly 12 inches in diameter at ground level. The grinder lowers the stump to 4–6 inches below grade so you can sod, plant, or mulch right over it. Most jobs take under an hour from setup to cleanup.

Starts at $125 · per visit

  • Medium Stump Grinding

12–24 inch stumps — pines, oaks, magnolias. Most of what comes out of a Houston back yard.

For stumps roughly 12 to 24 inches across. The cutter wheel works the stump in passes, ground 4–8 inches below grade. We also chase the surface roots a few feet out so you do not get bumps in the lawn next year.

  • Large Stump Grinding

Big oaks, water oaks, pecans, hackberries — anything over 24 inches across. Bring the bigger machine.

For stumps over 24 inches in diameter. These take more time and a more aggressive cutter wheel. We grind well below grade (8–10 inches) and trace the major buttress roots so the area is plantable. Quoted on-site after a measure.

  • Multi-Stump Discount

3+ stumps in one visit get a per-stump discount. Lot clearings, hedge-row removals, fence-line cleanups.

If you have 3 or more stumps to grind in a single visit — common after a hedge removal or storm cleanup — we discount the per-stump rate because the equipment is already on site. Walk the property with us once and we will quote the whole list.

  • Surface Grind (Above-Grade Only)

When you just need the visible stump gone — no replanting planned. Cheaper than a full below-grade grind.

A surface grind takes the stump down to roughly ground level — fine if you are mulching over it or letting it stay covered by lawn. If you plan to sod, lay sprinklers, or plant something where the stump was, you want the full below-grade grind instead.

  • Below-Grade Grinding

Standard depth — 4 to 8 inches under grade so the area is plantable, soddable, irrigation-safe.

The default for most residential stumps. We grind 4–8 inches below grade so the area accepts sod, top-soil, or new plantings. If you are running an irrigation line through, tell us and we will go deeper where the line crosses.

  • Stump + Chip Cleanup

Most quotes leave the chips in the hole as backfill. If you want them hauled off, we do that too.

Default: chips go back in the hole and mound slightly (they settle within a season). Add-on: we shovel the chips into the truck and haul them off, leaving you with topsoil-ready dirt to fill from. Most folks pick the default — chips are great mulch.

  • Surface-Root Tracing

Those tripping-hazard roots running across the lawn? We chase them out with the grinder.

Big oaks and water oaks throw surface roots that lift the lawn over time. The grinder follows the root run and takes them down enough to mow over without scalping. Pairs well with a stump grind on the same tree.
